Honorable Mention
Sharing an Older Woman’s Fruit
Dan Tompsett

Puget Sound reflects cymbal brass
beneath blue wisped white
while we pause,
give the weeds a break,
unbend our backs.

We imbibe a bit
of her humble harvest.
The peach juice is jazz
upon my tongue;
its skin a lullaby
brushed across my lips.

She says:

"My fruit is overripe;
soft in spots."

I say:

"What you've given me
is perfect."
